Announcing the ModernPaper Theme For WordPress

by Performancing in Themes on April 16, 2007

ModernPaper Wordpress ThemeWe are pleased to announce our second Brian Gardner designed theme ModernPaper For WordPress.

As is emblematic of his style, Brian has given us a clean, professional look with ease of customization.

The name ModernPaper hints at the fact that this theme is well suited for modern publishing of all kinds and straight out of the box has a nice journalistic feel. We wouldn’t be surprised to see this theme adopted by a wide variety of professional online publications, from traditional news to pop media.

As with the Nightlife theme, we want you to get the most out of your ModernPaper experience, which is why we’ve created this post to support the growth and maturation of the theme. Feel free to ask questions and make suggestions.

  1. Any chance of some drupal themes?, these wordpress ones are great!

  2. Good job! looks pretty good! clean, simple, 3 columns, i like it :)

  3. I’ve been a fan of three column designs for a while and this one is definitely a nice clean one.

    Looking good.

  4. Nice theme , I love the layout but I can figure out for the life of me how to upload a logo

  5. This is cool…but where’s the download link?

  6. This is nice, thanks.

  7. I agree. Great job, Brian!!

  8. SgtFoster - the download link is the screenshot in the post introducing the theme, or the link in the first paragraph.

  9. Hi,
Neat theme (both of them, actually).

One issue though - if you have nested subcategories, there’s no indication on the site which ones are top-level and which are subcats. Would be great to have extra indentation for the subcats.

    Regards,
    Andy

  10. Nice, Thanks! Did some quick adjustments and put on my little site.

  11. what? I’m not sexy enough top warrant a response? Does anyone know how to ad a logo to this theme?

  12. This is the one theme I’m halfway interested in and there isn’t a way to download this puppie!?

  13. Thanks a loot! It’s just fine for my child school project.

Hope to used it and contribute for it!

  14. Jonathan, If you want a good 3 columns Wordpress Theme, search for AndyBlue on themes.wordpress.net ;)

  15. basic everyoneuseit theme. sorry.

  16. Looks a lot like Brian Gardners theme. With a different header.

  17. Almost same like vertigo by Brian Gardner

  18. TJ, not sure where you are wanting to add the logo? Can you elaborate?

Jenny & Yanu, yes, this theme was actually created by Brian, based on his Vertigo series. The intent was to offer a site that is easy on the eyes, focusing on a newspaper-type feel.

  19. hei, man,I edited your theme rencently, I want to ask abuot the permition to edit the theme ,you can view it at my site.

  20. Great Site. Thanks for the great wordpress theme. I am using it right now on my site

  21. Nice theme,I have already use in my blog. Thanks lot!

  22. Hey… is this theme widget ready?

  23. Beautiful, simple yet elegant.

Will be adding it to another blog today to complement my site at http://odps.org (no link from site to blog yet :))

    Thanks for all the work.

  24. Weird issue. Theme loads fine at http://odps.arpss.com/odps/ but when I change the file/directory attributes it disappears!

Deleted it and reloaded twice to make sure I hadn’t done something strange, but it still happens.

I’d like to edit the ‘about’ lines in r_sidebar.php

    Any suggestions?

  25. I liked it subject! Congratulations!

A magazine style is same. I want to give a suggestion. When the author writes a notice, it appears the date of the notice, but the name of it does not appear as being the author of that notice. It has as to place this?

    Thanks! ;)

  26. Brian, this is a great theme. I’m thinking of using it on my blog. I’m tweaking it right now and have an issue with text wrapping around images in posts.

When the posts were written I started the text on a separate paragraph from the image. In other themes this keeps the text from wrapping around the image, but not in the ModernPaper Theme. What can be influencing the wrapping of text around the image? The images are justified to the left and text wraps to the right of the image.

My knowledge of CSS is somewhat limited. It would be nice if you could point me to the section of code that may be affecting text wrapping.

Thank you in advance. I hope I can get this resolved and use your theme.

  27. Brian, never mind on the text wrapping issue. I got it resolved.

  28. It’s a really nice and clean template. Thank you.
I’m getting it ready to use this on my site. I’m changing it from fixed to fluid (I seem to have a lot of high resolution visitors…960 px is too small). Thank heavens for xampplite. :D
Perhaps you could offer it in a fluid width also, for others?

  29. Great theme! I am using it for my new blog
    http://www.wordpressprofit.com/
However, why there is no Edit button/link next the post title even after logging in?

  30. Beautiful theme. I’m using it on my site, but I have a question…

Why am I not finding a “single post” theme file/template page? I checked the download from this site, although I downloaded it from Theme Viewer, and am not seeing it on either one.

I have always used my “single post” page for stats, and some ads, but am not sure how to apply stats with this theme.

I’m not a techie, so I am missing something?

  31. Hello,

I really like your theme and would like to hire you to make 3 simple modifications. 1) Would be to make it fluid width, 2) Add Author Info and 3) Put one column on the left and the other on the right (of the center column).

  32. created by Performancing

  33. Great template… not so keen on the comments style.

One problem i cant get image/text alignment to work in my posts ie text to go under a image and not around it.

    AC

  34. I upgraded to WP 2.3.1
the theme still seems to work, but I can’t get the tag cloud to work with this theme. It just makes a long list.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,jb

  35. i try this theme in my new site. It look error when i open with firefox, but look good when i open with IE. What wrong?

  36. I love this theme, but tweaking it has been a bear! I am trying to edit the index to use “stumbleupon” and it keeps adding things to the link! Anyone have a fix for this?

I am using these instructions from Stumbleupon. I am putting the stumble link on my index as there is no “single.php” to this theme.

While I am putting the link in correctly, this theme keeps adding “http:(permalinktomyarticle)/%EF%BF%BD” to everything I add to the template.

  37. Nevermind answering here. I see that question was more appropriate for the support forum!

  38. The is a little flaw in this theme. If one sets users must be registred to comment, then l_sidebar and r_sidebar will appear below content_left instead of next to it. (only when one is not logged in..)

i found, i dont know how and why, that in comments.php the last div close tag and the 2 php_endif tags are in the wrong order. At first the div is above the two endif’s but when you make the div close tag the last line, the theme works fine again

  39. Brian and Everyone behind Performancing: I have used this theme for my site for the last 6 months (from its start), and it has been great with lot of flexibility. Wish you all a great new year ahead!

  40. I started using this theme. Thanks, I like how clean it is.
    Any update on:
“However, why there is no Edit button/link next the post title even after logging in?”

It would be nice to have this. Thanks, again.

  41. hi brian, one of my reader ask me to port this template enable work on the blogspot platform. Since i found no word ‘free theme’ on your modernpaper so will you give me a permit to work it out?

    thanking you for the feedback.

  42. Does any one know how to convert this into a 2 column theme instead of the 3 existing columns?

  43. @free credit..: You can delete the include of one of the sidebars in your theme editor.

I actually love this theme, it is very clean and useful, but the pagination simply doesn’t work. It always shows the newest post, when Page 2 has been clicked for example.
    Any solutions?
    Thank you very much.

  44. I love this theme too. It’s very useful.

Is it compatible with WordPRess 2.5?

    I hope.

  45. Its a very good website that i found from Google. But i cant find the download link for this Modern paper theme. :(

  46. Great theme. Customised it, used it, credited it.

Now, is it 2.5 friendly? I’d like to know before I upgrade

    Thanks

  47. Thanx for this great looking theme..very nice and clean

  48. I am having trouble with the RSS icon. I have the feed set up using Feedburner along with the FeedSmith plugin installed/activated.

For some reason, when you click on the feed icon in the header, a 404 page shows up. What is missing here?

  49. Would really be nice to get an answer about compatibility with WP 2.5. I have been waiting for a response from you not only in here and in the forum for the theme support. It’s been over a month and there has been questions by more than just myself It would be a shame to see this great theme discontinue.
    Bueller!!! Bueller!!! LOL

  50. Not sure why but my comment yesterday was deleted from this site???? I wasn’t trying to be derogatory towards performancing for not supporting their themes or answering questions about the modernpaper theme being compatible with WP 2.5. I think it poses an honest question about their theme, why shouldn’t i expect the designer of this theme to answer that simple question. Is It Compatible with 2.5 or not???

I am not the only person to ask this unanswered question since the release of 2.5. If you look in the support forum for this theme, I asked this same question over 7 weeks ago with no answer yet. Why is it called a support forum if there is no support? I think you have some valuable content on your blog as a whole and some great WP themes but where is the support at?
